In 2012, Mrs. Katie Chavez completed her Master of Education in school counseling through Concordia University Wisconsin and holds a life-time Wisconsin School Counseling License. Over the past two years, Mrs. Chavez has been taking courses to obtain her Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification to further support her work at Wisconsin Lutheran High School (WLHS). She is enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Bethany Lutheran College for an additional qualification to help those with mental health issues. In the 2024-25 school year, Mrs. Chavez will be completing her LPC certification, with an internship a couple hours a week, at Christian Family Solutions (CFS) in Germantown, Wis.
WLHS thanks Mrs. Chavez for continuing to grow in her knowledge to help students. Her coursework and internship better support students by:
providing evidence-based counseling practices,
enhancing current mental health and wellness services, and
applying relevant counseling practices to current situations in school settings.
Mrs. Chavez shares, "My passion is to serve, and to equip individuals with resiliency skills so that they can overcome any obstacles our sinful world throws into their path. The goal of WLHS is to prepare the next generation to be ambassadors for Christ. I'm honored to be a part this, and my prayer is that the skills I'm obtaining through this coursework and internship at CFS will strengthen what we already do every day for our students. We have an amazing partnership with CFS through the school based counseling program, and I couldn't imagine learning these skills for licensure at any other placement as CFS has our same goal for the clients they serve."
