The Vikings fought hard but were unable to overcome Pewaukee in the sectional finals, falling to the Pirates by a score of 76-63 on Saturday night.
The game was tight and possession-oriented in the early going. But the Vikings' miscues caught up with them. Wisco turned the ball over 11 times in the first half, and the Pirates took advantage by scoring 15 points off of those turnovers. Many of those came during a 17-5 run that closed the first half and sent Pewaukee into the locker room up 40-21.
The Vikings chipped away in the second half and were able to generate offense off of steals to cut the lead under 10 points several times. The team got as close as seven points, at 66-59, but could not edge closer as the Pirates made their free throws to seal the win.
Jonah Rindfleisch scored a career-high 23 points in his final game in a Wisco uniform. He shot 9-11 from the field and added three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Fellow senior Isaiah Hopf added 12 points and five rebounds, while Prentice Young scored 12 points and had a team-high four assists. More stats are available here.
The Vikings conclude the year with a 21-3 record, just the seventh season in school history with 20 or more wins. Their second-place finish in the Woodland West marked the 32nd consecutive season that they have finished in the top half of their conference. Individually, Prentice Young's 94 assists are the seventh-highest season total in school history, Kon Knueppel's 42 three-pointers are the eighth-most in a season, and Jonah Rindfleisch's 235 rebounds rank as the sixth-best single-season effort in school history, while his career total of 590 places him third all-time at WLHS.
