Vikings Grind Out Road Win

The boys basketball team overcame a nine-point deficit in the second half to claim a 69-61 win at New Berlin West on Friday night. A balanced effort ruled the night, with three players scoring in double figures and two more adding nine points each.

The Vikings trailed 31-30 at halftime and fell behind 45-36 with 12:42 to play. Josh Knueppel sank three free throws to start an extended comeback that saw Wisco finally tie the game at 52 six minutes later on Jamiir Allen's three-pointer from the left wing. Free throws from Jonah Rindfleisch gave the team its first lead since midway through the first half, and the Vikings would not trail again. Prentice Young scored in the lane to give the team a three-point lead at 58-55, then found Rindfleisch and Isaiah Hopf for baskets on successive possessions to give Wisco some breathing room. Knueppel and Allen sank free throws down the stretch to ice the win.

Rindfleisch stuffed the box score with 14 points, nine rebounds, a season-high six blocks, and three steals. Young added 13 points to go along with five rebounds and a team-high four assists. Landon Key scored ten points, and Allen and Knueppel provided key scoring off the bench with nine points apiece. More stats are available here.

With the win, the Vikings improved to 14-2 on the season and 8-2 in conference play. The team hosts Pius XI on Friday, February 5.
