Senior Student: Reminders

 

In years past, May 1 has served as the deadline to submit your acceptance and make a deposit to attend the four-year college or university you have been accepted to and plan to attend. If you are planning to live on campus, some schools require a housing deposit as well. Due to delays with the FAFSA forms and financial aid letters, many schools have pushed this deadline back. Most schools have deadlines falling between May 15 and the end of June. Many students have been accepted to multiple schools; it is considered unethical to accept admission at more than one school. If you need more time, contact the schools you are deciding between. If you decide to attend a different school after making your deposit, contact the admissions office. Most deposits are non-refundable, however. 

Be aware of upcoming deadlines for program enrollment. When a student registers for a program, they may be required to submit a deposit. Depending on what program they enroll in they may also need to submit a tuition payment within two weeks of registration or prior to the start of the class. If your student is planning to start their program over the summer, this will require earlier enrollment and deposits. Talk with the financial aid office at the school your child will be attending if you have specific questions regarding registration or required fees.

The FAFSA form opened at the end of December 2023 for students who will be attending college next school year. This application allows students to get grants and loans from the government to attend school. It is highly recommended that you complete this form. If you need some help completing the form, a non profit organization called Fair Opportunity Project is offering free 1:1 FAFSA help sessions. Companies who specialize in manufacturing or are a trades based industry need workers! Many will offer on-the-job training to students who have graduated high school. They may also offer tuition reimbursements should you pursue a certificate or degree. We’ve met with many students who are planning to go into this area. Contact your counselor if you need some additional support in the job search process. We are happy to lead students to the resources that we have available regarding jobs in the trades.
