For the 2025-26 school year, WLHS is excited to add five new classes in various departments that enhance student Academic and Career Plans (ACP). These new courses support both college and career preparation.
Intro to Data Analysis This course provides students with an advanced level of comprehension in Microsoft Excel. Advanced spreadsheet competency is an essential skill for future careers in accounting and finance, mathematics, and scientific research. Students in this course will have an opportunity to earn Expert-level industry certification in Excel, which has proven to lead to high levels of collegiate accomplishment and greater future earnings in business-related fields.
Sports & Entertainment Marketing Unlock the world of sports and entertainment marketing by learning how your favorite brands, teams, and celebrities build global success! You'll create exciting marketing campaigns, explore event management, and discover how to turn your passion for sports and entertainment into a career, all while figuring out the ins and outs of social media.
Graphic Design 2 This one semester course is for students who are interested in graphic design as a potential career. Students will build on concepts learned in Graphic Design 1 such as balance, layout, and text formatting. Students will build their artistic talents using programs they learned the basics of in Graphic Design 1 such as; Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, and ProCreate. Students will learn new skills and learn how to better express their unique creative voice in their art.
2D Studio Art Students will create a 2D portfolio or digital art portfolio consisting of a range of materials, processes, and ideas relating to a specific topic or theme based on their choosing. Portfolios will include the whole creation process including planning, process of creating artwork, completing work of arts, and reflecting on finished products. Students will create a culminating written reflection based on their body of work to explain their thought-process and ideas. Students are encouraged to take this class if they are unable to meet AP requirements, or want to continue the study of arts that may not be offered in any advanced art classes.
Honors Band This is an upper-level, performance-based course in band music with an emphasis on the development of God-given talents. An extended amount of attention will be given to personal growth in instrumental fundamentals, musicianship, and technique. During the school year, students continue their development of ensemble skills and are provided with exposure to wind band literature of the highest quality. The band performs increasingly challenging repertoire across three major concert performances and is actively involved in providing small ensembles for area churches, WLHS events, and the WSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival. Students will be given small group or individual lessons as the band director’s schedule permits.
Students that signed up for the career pathway informational meetings in December 2024 were introduced to these new courses. For the 2025-26 year, these additions will expand our offerings to more than 150 courses available to students.
