On February 6, WLHS celebrated black history month with a school-wide assembly under the theme "And Still I Rise." Assistant Principal C.L. Whiteside ('06) opened with a message about what brings us together and unites us as brothers and sisters in Christ. Students poured hours into rehearsals and film editing to showcase excellence in the African-American community. From the Harlem Renaissance to Jazz and Hip-Hop, the arts were on display. Students performed a jazz number, solo and small group recitations, step and hip-hop routines, as well as Gospel songs with Praise Dancers. Video clips showcased the history of rap music and college marching bands. What a wonderful reminder that the body of Christ has individual talents that can work in harmony to the glory of God.
