A group of students from Honey Creek Hall made the most of their day off from classes on October 24 by attending a university tour at nearby Concordia University.

One of the ways students are supported at Honey Creek Hall is through regular small-group meetings with one of the dorm supervisors. The students are divided into groups called “houses” that they maintain a relationship with for the whole year. Houses meet with their designated supervisor on a regular basis as a group, and periodically one-on-one.

During three weeks in July, WLHS welcomed students from around the world to its English Excellence Summer Camp. We were blessed with an attendance of 50 campers from the following eight countries: Brazil, China, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, El Salvador, and Thailand. This immersive, 18-day experience enabled campers to improve their English proficiency and gain insights into American culture and education. Four of those students will continue on with us at WLHS as new full-time students this year. 

We wish to share the bittersweet news with you that at the end of June 2024, Mrs. Tamara (Tammy) Leyrer will leave her post as the International Admissions Director at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. 

 

For the past seven years, Mrs. Leyrer has served the WLHS community in this vital role. During that time, she has tremendously helped grow the program’s enrollment and diversity of remarkable students from around the world. Mrs. Leyrer has also enhanced the quality of the program’s support to our international students with her critical leadership of our flagship “American Mentor to New International Student Program,” among many other notable achievements.

 

We wish to express our utmost congratulations to all the Class of 2024 graduates, including our 29 international graduates from 13 countries.
 

Each year in April, the WLHS Residential Program takes students on class trips to grow their unity as a class and spend some memorable time together before the end of the year. 

On April 20, the seniors in the WLHS Residential Program attended the annual Senior Seminar in Madison, an event specifically designed to prepare them for their upcoming college experience.

Seniors are coming closer to their graduation date.  As they prepare to leave WLHS and enter university, it is a good time for them to reflect on what they have learned and who they are.  One way they did that recently was through the CliftonStrengths Assessment and a special presentation.  The school provided the senior students in the WLHS Residential Program with the assessment to learn more about their personality, skills, and talents.  Guest speaker Emily Krill, a writer and university life coach, led a workshop on how they are uniquely gifted, and how to use their Strengths for success as future college students.

Before the Spring break, the Residential Activities Committee (RAC) organized an Easter party for all students residing in the dormitory as well as special Ecuadorian guests visiting for a short program at WLHS.
