As temperatures begin to warm, we want to remind families of our after-school expectations. When the temperature is 50 degrees or warmer, students who are waiting for a ride must remain outside the building unless they have prior approval to be in a supervised area. Our policy states that students who are not involved in a scheduled after-school activity must leave the building by 3:10 p.m.
We also want to discourage students from gathering at nearby businesses, including Starbucks and Pick ’n Save, especially if they are not customers. Spending extended time at these locations without making a purchase is not appropriate and does not reflect well on our school.

At WLHS, we are incredibly grateful for our school counselors—Mrs. Chavez, Mrs. Jiles, and Mr. Schumacher—who walk alongside students and families every day. From academic planning and career guidance to personal support and encouragement, they play a vital role in helping our students grow, succeed, and feel supported.
National School Counseling Week shines a light on the powerful impact counselors have in schools across the country. This year’s theme, “School Counselors Amplify Student Success,” perfectly reflects the heart of our WLHS counseling team and the difference they make behind the scenes.

As seniors approach the end of their high school journey, planning for what comes next becomes increasingly important. Vocational English, a senior elective, helps students explore their future paths while strengthening essential life and communication skills. This past week, seniors put those skills into action through a Goal Gallery Walk, reflecting on and sharing their hopes and plans for the years ahead. Students showcased their goals through creative projects such as vision boards, show-and-tell presentations, short stories, and letters.

February marks National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, celebrating high school programs that prepare students for high-demand careers. CTE offers hands-on training in fields like business, education, entertainment, healthcare, technology, manufacturing, and skilled trades, providing students with technical skills and industry certifications that make them job-ready after graduation, and helps bridge the gap between education and workforce needs.

Two on-site CFS therapists collaborate with school counselors to offer direct therapeutic support, helping students navigate challenges like anxiety, depression, and family transitions. Additionally, classroom-based lessons promote resilience, emotional regulation, and healthy decision-making, ensuring students receive holistic care.
